Chemicals play an important role in daily life. They serve several purpose in varied range from household to commercial products that can be life-saving or hazardous to health. Chemicals bring about benefits upon which modern society is entirely dependent. They also make a vital contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of citizens in terms of trade and employment.
Chemical Department (CHD) is one of the oldest technical department of Bureau of Indian Standards. Chemical Department has so far formulated more than 1800 standards related mainly to inorganic chemicals with the help of 25 sectional committees.
In this BIS Talks, we have broadly categorized the standards of Chemical Department into 8 categories. Keeping this in view, the Officers of Chemical Department have elaborated few important standards in each category highlighting their scope and various important test requirements specified in the standard.
