With a view to creating an institutional mechanism for effective coordination and synergy with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of the country, in the development promotion and implementation of the Indian Standards (IS) to create a robust quality ecosystem in the country, as envisaged in the Indian National Strategy for Standardization, a Standardization Cell is formed with the composition and functions of the Standardization cell are shown below:

Functions :

The Cell will help the Ministry/Department in -

  • Identification of the new areas and subjects for Standards Development.
  • Preparation of the Annual Programme for Standardization.
  • Identifying and nominating experts to the Technical committees and working panels of BIS.
  • Examination of the Indian Standards to be included in the guidelines for the programmes and schemes of the department.
  • Identification of the Indian Standards for mandating compulsory certification and drafting of QCOs.
  • Organising consultation with the industry and other stakeholders to promote the use of Indian Standards and sharing the feedback with BIS and
  • Leveraging the capacity-building programmes of BIS.
