1 This standard (Part3) was originally published in 1975. In the first revision of the standard published in 1983 the standard was split into two sections, Section 1 dealing with difference/preference tests and Section 2 dealing with ranking and scoring tests. The first revision brought together various tests of the same type having same field of application. The various statistical tests were presented in a more simplified form so that a common user may be able to understand them easily. Further, it also incorporated the preference matrix analysis, which was based on the extension of the paired comparison test to more than two samples. The sign test was deleted, as the same purpose is served by the paired comparison test. While bringing out second revision, the standard has been brought out in the latest style and format of Indian Standard, and references to Indian Standards, wherever applicable, have been updated.
