1 | Remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS) has emerged as a powerful tool to survey and monitor natural resources of an area. The remote sensing and GIS techniques can be used widely for environmental impact assessment (EIA) and environment management plan (EMP) of water resources projects in India. The aim of these recommendations is to summarize well known and proved principles and to describe commonly used procedures, equipments and techniques in order to enable an engineer-in-charge of a water resources project to assess the environmental impact of that particular project. The need for following an experimental approach and learning through trial is emphasized while providing guidelines which would permit a project in charge to use his discretion without compromising the overall project requirements. This standard has, therefore, been formulated to give guidelines in this regard. |
